About
Random Location Generator picks a random place on Earth.
It can be open sea, open land or a named town. You set how wide the search is, and the site picks the spot.
Six ways to land
- Anywhere: any point on the globe. About 7 spins in 10 end up in the sea.
- On land: the same, with the oceans skipped.
- In a continent, a country, a state or a city: a named town inside the place you pick.
Ask for up to 500 places at once. Download them as CSV, GeoJSON or plain text.
What people use it for
- Writers who need a setting.
- Teachers and quiz hosts.
- Travellers after a trip idea.
- Developers who need test coordinates.
Same spin, twice
Every spin on the map gets a seed code, such as IT-12-7Q2KHB. Paste it back in to land on the same places. Send it to a class or a friend and everyone gets the same list.
Where the places come from
Towns come from GeoNames: 64,441 towns of 5,000 people or more, across 246 countries and territories. Country shapes and sea names come from Natural Earth. Your browser draws the map and the globe from them.
Free, with no sign-up
