Spin and land on a random city or town in Canada. Pick a province or territory first, or leave it to chance. Free, no sign-up.

Getting a random location in Canada

The tool starts on In a country: Canada. Each spin lands on a Canadian city or town of 5,000 people or more, from a list of 665 across the 10 provinces and 3 territories.

To stay in one province, switch to In a state and pick it, such as Manitoba or Nova Scotia. Canada stays picked.

Quebec and Ontario come up most

Every town has the same chance, so the provinces with the most towns come up most. Quebec has 196 towns in the list and Ontario 188. British Columbia has 94 and Prince Edward Island 5.

In the territories, the list holds Whitehorse, Yellowknife and Iqaluit. With In a state on Any state, each of the 13 provinces and territories has the same chance, so the North comes up as often as Ontario.

    Random Canadian places in bulk

Set "How many places?" to any number up to 500. One spin lists Canadian towns with their province and coordinates and pins each one on the map.

Copy the list or save it as CSV, GeoJSON or plain text for a mapping project or sample data for an app.

Ideas for a random place in Canada

Spin in your own province for a day trip or a camping weekend, then check the drive in Google Maps.

For a quiz, spin 10 places and have players sort them from west to east before you show the map.

    Frequently asked questions

    Does it include the Arctic?

Yes. Iqaluit in Nunavut is the most northern town in the list. Most Arctic communities have fewer than 5,000 people, so they are not in it.

Do Quebec towns keep their French spelling?

Yes, accents included, such as Trois-Rivières and Saint-Jérôme.

    Is Newfoundland and Labrador included?

Yes, with 16 towns, from St. John's to Labrador City.

What is the most southern town?

Leamington, Ontario, on the north shore of Lake Erie.

Can the spin land in the Canadian wilderness?

Not in this mode: In a country always lands on a town. On land picks any point on land, but anywhere in the world, not only in Canada.
