Spin and land on a random city or town in the United States. Pick a state first, or leave it to chance. Free, no sign-up.
The tool starts on In a country: United States. Each spin lands on a US city or town of 5,000 people or more, from a list of 7,110 in all 50 states and Washington, DC.
To stay inside one state, switch to In a state. The United States stays picked, so you only choose the state, such as Ohio or Oregon.
Every US town in the list has the same chance, so states with more towns come up more often. California has 632 towns in the list, Florida 493 and Texas 392. North Dakota has 14.
To give every state the same chance, use In a state with Any state. Each spin picks a state first, then a town in it, and shows the state name biggest.
Set "How many places?" to any number up to 500. One spin gives a list of US cities and towns with latitude and longitude, shown as numbered pins on the map.
Copy the list or download it as CSV, GeoJSON or plain text. Each row has the town, state and coordinates, so it works as test data for a US map or app.
For a random road trip destination in the USA, choose In a state, pick your own state or a neighbouring one, and spin until a town lands within driving range. Open it in Google Maps to plan the route.
Set a story in a town you have never heard of. Run a quiz round: spin, then name the state before you look. Spin 50 times and see how many states you get.
For anywhere else on Earth, use the Random Location Generator.
Yes. Hawaii has 90 towns in the list and Alaska 22. Hawaii has more because many Honolulu neighbourhoods on Oahu are listed as places of their own. Each state comes up as often as its town count allows.
