Spin the globe and see where it lands: a random country, city or spot at sea. Pick a continent, country, state or city first, or leave it to chance. Free, no sign-up.
Pick where the globe can land: Anywhere, On land, In a continent, In a country, In a state or In a city. The last four start on Any, so you can leave the place to chance. Then press SPIN, or the space bar on a computer.
Anywhere can land at sea, and about 7 spins in 10 do. On land never lands at sea.
In a state and In a city let you pick a country and a state, or leave them on Any. The globe then lands on a named city there.
The page starts on In a country with Any country. Each spin picks a country, then a city in it, and shows the country biggest. Each of the 246 countries and territories in the list has the same chance, whatever its size.
To stay on one continent, pick In a continent and choose it. The globe lands on a city there and shows the country biggest. Antarctica has no cities, so it lands on a point on the ice.
Each landing shows the place name, its flag, coordinates, country and continent. If you allow location, it also shows how far away the place is and in which direction. Your location stays in your browser.
Under the result, Google Maps and Street View open the place, Share link copies a link to it, and Save as image card makes a picture to post. The 64,441 cities come from GeoNames; more about the data.
Drag the globe to turn it. On a phone, swipe sideways; an up or down swipe scrolls the page. The speaker button in the header mutes the sound. With your device set to reduce motion, the globe jumps straight to the place; turn on Spin anyway to see it spin.
The globe shows one place per spin. Switch View to Map, then set How many places? up to 500. Map view also has Copy, CSV, GeoJSON and .txt exports and seed codes. The Random Location Generator page explains each option.
Press SPIN and see where the globe lands. To make it a game, give the spin a job, such as planning a trip there or seeing whose spin lands farthest away. More ideas are under "Games to play with a spin".
With Anywhere or On land, no. Those pick a spot on the surface, so a large country covers more spots and comes up more often than a small one. For an even chance, use In a country with Any country.
Yes. Pick In a state or In a city, then choose a country and a state, or leave them on Any. The globe lands on a named city there.
