The short version
- No accounts, no sign-up forms, no personal details asked for.
- If you share your location, it stays in your browser. We never receive it.
- Ads come from Google AdSense, which uses cookies. You can turn off personalised ads.
- We count visits with Google Analytics. In the European Economic Area, the UK and Switzerland it sets no cookies unless you consent.
Your location
The first time you press SPIN, your browser asks whether to share your location. If you say yes, we use it for one thing: the line that says how far away you landed, such as "8,400 km northeast of you". That sum happens on your device. Your location is never sent to us or stored by us.
If you say no, the distance line stays hidden and everything else works. You can change your answer at any time in your browser's settings.
What your browser remembers
To keep your choices between visits, this site saves a few small settings in your browser's storage: light or dark theme, sound on or off, kilometres or miles, where you chose to land (the answer and its continent, country and state), how many places, and Map or Globe view. They never leave your device. Clearing your browser's site data removes them.
Visitor counting
We use Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages are used. It sends Google your browser type, screen size, rough location (from your IP address) and the pages you open. Outside the European Economic Area, the UK and Switzerland it also sets cookies. Inside them it sets no cookies unless you consent. We see totals only, never who you are. Google's own use of this data is described in how Google uses information from sites that use its services. To stop it on every site, install theGoogle Analytics opt-out add-on.
Ads and cookies
Ads pay for this site. They are served by Google AdSense. Google and its partners use cookies to show ads, including ads based on your earlier visits to this site and other sites. We do not control these cookies and cannot see what they contain.
- Turn off personalised ads from Google in Google's Ad Settings.
- Turn off personalised ads from other ad companies at aboutads.info, or youronlinechoices.eu in Europe.
- Read how Google uses information from sites that use its services.
If you visit from the European Economic Area, the UK or Switzerland, you are asked for your consent before any personalised ads are shown. You can say no and still use the whole site. You can change your choice later.
Hosting
This site is delivered by Cloudflare. Like any web host, it handles technical details such as your IP address and browser type, to send you the pages and to block attacks. We do not use that data to track you.
Emails you send us
If you email us, we keep your message and address only as long as we need them to reply. We never sell them or add you to a mailing list. Ask us to delete them at any time.
Children
This site is not aimed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to see, correct or delete personal information about you. We hold almost none, but ask and we will answer. For ad data held by Google, use Google's Ad Settings above.
Changes and questions
If we change how this site handles your information, we will update this page first and change the date at the top. Questions: hello@getrandomlocation.com.
